Bearing race driver set. Used to install the new races.
New idler am assembly in place (left side of machine).
Don't forget to put the shims in. It must be in perfect line with the other sprockets or chain wear will occur.
Wow what a great, informative site. I have searched high & low for something like this! I really like the detail in the pictures, it helps knowing what things are supposed look like.
ReplyDeletethanks great info and pics really helpful
ReplyDeleteThat was helpful seeing the actual parts and procedure, but I was curious if you had to get all your main parts from the MUSTANG dealer or is there another source for CHAIN, sprocket, bearings, etc. Dealer loves to charge full price, ,just wandering if there was alternative choice as it can get expensive when you gotta change everything.
ReplyDeletethanks
Philip
I think the only part I had to get from the Mustang dealer was the chain tightener.
DeleteWhere can one get some of the larger expensive parts other than dealer? Chain, Sprocket, main bearings, etc. Can you give me part number and place to order large chain? about how much is that?
ReplyDeletethanks
Where can one get some of the expensive parts other than the dealer, for example, chain, sprockets. Is there a generic part number for large chain? that can be used to order thru a chain dealer?
ReplyDeletethanks
Phillip
I have a older 442 mustang , I'm adjusting my drive chains and cannot find any info on how much deflection you should. any clue??
ReplyDeleteThank you , this helped out

ReplyDeleteDid you ever figure out how to remove the Cluster Sprocket on your 940? I am not having any luck.
DeleteDid you change the bearing in the drive motor sproket?
ReplyDeleteDid you replace the bearing in the drive motor soroket? How dis you disassemble?
ReplyDeleteThank you for all of the great pictures. I am working on the left side of my 940 at the moment. Idler bearing went bad and it let things become misaligned and inner chain came off front sprocket.
ReplyDeleteHi great project.
ReplyDeleteI'm currently restoring my 940e due to an engine fire, and are also replacing the bearings as you. Messy project.
BTW can you help to take a picture of the engine oli stick with a measurement tape next to it. In the rebuild I lost mine and need to replace it.

Great pictures, really shows the inner workings and how to disassemble. Did you count the number of links of the 80hk chain you will need to re-install?
ReplyDeleteI measured it, it is 10 feet long.
DeleteCan anyone tell me what the pin on the right hand side of the machine that’s just forwarded of the oil level hole in the chain case ?
ReplyDeleteCan you tell me the dimensions of the axle seal? I'm thinking of 2.375 on the ID and 3.35 on the OD. Also, do you know if the race is supposed to be 3.22 (JLM104910) on the OD, or 3.25 (LM104911)?
ReplyDeleteAnybody know where to get replacement front sprocket, 13 spline .bed inner bearing destroyed ours !
ReplyDeleteOur mustang had 80HK chain
ReplyDeleteJust finished replacing the left rear bearings , very hard to reach ! Was thinking of making some access ports on the outside , one above the axle and one larger between the axles . changed the gasket on the round access port at the back , liked to never get the forward bottom nut started , arms to large from hay , farm work and logging i guess .
ReplyDeleteGreat detail! Very helpful!
ReplyDeleteI have a rear out axle bearing that has disintegrated from one of the photos there looks to be a round access / inspection cover on the inside of the chassis ?
ReplyDeleteCan anyone confirm this .
Looking in from the top I can only "just see" the axle nut & sproket I need to remove let alone try get my hand in there .........
